Romi M 27 Combination Lathe
M 27 COMBINATION LATHE
The Romi M-Series is the latest version of the technology pioneered by Romi since the early 1990's. Romi has manufactured more combination lathes than any other manufacturer. Romi combination lathe technology has now been combined with GE Fanuc reliability to create the most advanced combination lathe ever built.

Software developed by Romi and GE/Fanuc gives powerful conversational programming capabilities to the 21i-T control that have not been available on any other lathe. The 21i-T retains the ability to function as a G code control. The fiber optic cable connection to the servo amplifiers as well as the compact design makes the 21i-T the ideal control for this type of lathe. A color monitor enhances visibility and ease of operation.

The CNC control panel is mounted on a pendant that is rigidly supported by an overheard arm. The pendant is capable of traveling the length of the bed for operator convenience.

All machines in this series have Romi's patented apron technology. All controls are outside the guards where they are not exposed to chips and coolant. The apron can be attached or detached from the carriage as selected by the operator. This allows automatic operation without having the apron travel longitudinally with the carriage. Attaching the apron also allows the operator to choose the most comfortable operating position during manual machining and set up.

 

A two piece tailstock is standard on all the M27 lathes. The two piece construction allows easy alignment. A dual clamp design means you can do very large diameter drilling using the tailstock.

The automatic lubrication system has the oil fill port conveniently located on the front of the machine. Warning messages are displayed on the CNC to indicate low lube oil level and lubrication system faults.

Romi has also incorporated the latest GE-Fanuc 30 HP spindle drive motor for the M series. The two speed gearbox gives the M 27 maximum torque for heavy cutting with full horsepower at speeds as low as 31 RPM. Spindle speeds are infinitely variable within each range.

The M Series may be operated in any one of five ways:

  1. Manually, using the X and Z hand wheels and the built-in DRO.
  2. Manually, using the Manual Guidance hand wheel to move both axes simultaneously to cut radii and tapers. A box cycle is created and software limits can be set to insure precise size control for angles and radii.
  3. Programs can be created by "teaching" the machine movements.
  4. Programs can be created and the machine can be run using the Manual Guidance/Romi Conversational Program System. Rough and Finish Profiling, Threading, Grooving, Drilling and Tapping Conversational menus are used to generate part programs.
  5. G code programming done off line or at the machine.

Any "H" bed lathe with over 60 inches in bed length should be anchored to the floor.  All "H" bed lathes, from any manufacturer, rely on anchoring to "twist" the bed to achieve quoted accuracies. In order to obtain best results from your long bed Romi lathe it should be anchored securely to the floor and properly leveled on a regular basis.
           
For most installations a suitable foundation is four to eight inches of reinforced concrete on a stable sub-soil. The larger or longer the lathe, the stronger the foundation should be.
